Dariusz Bazaczek

…or just Darek (popular in Poland short for Dariusz) – graphic artist, designer. Also, writer, playwright, poet. Passionate about world, literature, contemporary design, playing guitar (fingerstyle: bossanova, jazz) and table tennis. Favourite combination: prose of Franz Kafka, a cigar, a glass of adequate cognac and a comfortable chair with a view.
Since 1985 he has been designing for BBC, Microsoft, Skanska, General Electric, Oxford University Press, Sanoma Group, Saab, VW, 20th Century Fox, Ministry of Education in Poland and many others. In years 1996 – 2012 he was an art director and designer in YDP, a company operating in international educational publishing business. Since 1997 he runs his design studio deStu (formerly B-design Studio and Studio Bazaczek). He also had some author’s exhibitions of his graphics, drawnings and cartoons in Sopot, Gdańsk and Gdynia during that time.

His prose has been published in Polish literary magazines i.a.: Jupiter, Migotania przejaśnienia, Autograf, Akcent, Topos, Proza życia – antologia prozy współczesnej (an anthology of Polish contemporary prose), Akant, Nowe Pismo. He won a prize at the IInd Literary Contest held by University of Gdańsk in Poland and at the IInd Marek Hłasko Literary Contest in Vienna, Austria.
His plays and performances were staged at Gombrowicz Theatre in Gdynia, Musical Theatre in Gdynia, Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk, Miniatura Theatre in Gdańsk, Narodowy Theatre in Warsaw, Stara Prochownia Theatre in Warsaw, Montownia Theatre in Warsaw, Drama Laboratory Theatre in Warsaw, Ludowy Theatre in Cracow, Nowy Theatre in Cracow and at HfG Frankfurt /Main, Germany.

He worked in a number of movies as a screenwriter, co-writer or consultant, director or co-director and of course – as a graphic designer. One of the movies, Janek by Piotr J. Lewandowski, was presented during then Venice Film Festiwal in Italy.
Darek is also an author of lyrics or songs (lyrics & music) that were performed and nominated in recognized Polish song festivals: Author’s Song Festival in Warsaw, Student Song Festival in Cracow and Actor’s Song Festival in Wrocław.
